The NAM has held 16 summits of Heads of State or Government in different countries and continents by 2013. In all these summits, member countries have upheld their anti-war and pacifist principles of self-determination against imperialism in all its forms, as well as the recognition and respect for the differences among nations in order to democratize and strengthen international relations.

16th SUMMIT OF THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT
The 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was held from the 26th to the 31st of August, 2012, in Tehran, capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Leaders from 120 countries attended this Summit, including 24 presidents, 3 kings, 8 prime ministers, 50 foreign ministers and the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The Summit was preceded by two preparatory meetings; the first meeting was held from 26th to the 27th of August, 2012, with the participation of senior officials; the second was a ministerial meeting which took place from the 28th to the 29th of August of the same year. The main session of the XVI Summit was held from the 30th to the 31st of August, with the participation of leaders and heads of state of the NAM.
The presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement was officially delivered by the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose country assumed the presidency for the next three years, until the next summit, scheduled in Venezuela in 2016, is held. On this occasion the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will assume the presidency of the NAM until 2019.
